The Dallas Stars picked up an important point Sunday night in Los Angeles but they couldn’t get two, falling 4-3 in overtime to the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center. Jeff Carter scored with 52 seconds remaining in the extra period for the Kings, who won their sixth straight home game. The Stars, who lost for the third time in the last four games (1-2-1), remained in tenth place in the Western Conference and fell to three points behind Columbus, which is in eighth place.

Loui Eriksson, Antoine Roussel and Alex Goligoski scored for the Stars. Kari Lehtonen stopped 27 of 31 shots.

Daley, MacDermid return

Stars defenseman Trevor Daley, who missed Friday’s game with an upper body injury, was back in the lineup Sunday. He was back in usual spot on a defense pairing with Stephane Robidas.

Left wing Lane MacDermid, who had missed the last seven games with a chest injury, also returned to the lineup. He played on the fourth line with Tom Wandell and Antoine Roussel.

With Daley and MacDermid returning, defenseman Jordie Benn and forward Matt Fraser were healthy scratches.
