Defenseman Trevor Daley, who suffered an upper body injury in Friday’s game in San Antonio, skated on his own in Frisco this morning, but his status is still to be determined.
“He’s going to be evaluated this afternoon, so we don’t have any further update yet,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff.
The Stars are currently down two defensemen. How long Daley might be out could be known later today. Aaron Rome, who is out following a hip procedure, is not expected to be ready when the season opens in early October.
“He’s doubtful,” Ruff said of Rome. “He is just starting to do a little conditioning skating now. That would be really pushing it.”
Stars forward prospect Brett Ritchie is out for a couple of days with a lower body injury, but he could return for the final preseason games.
“He skated this morning. He’s doing a lot better,” Ruff said. “He just had a bad contusion that we felt is going to keep him out a few days. He may be available to play those last two games”
Stars at Colorado on Tuesday
The Stars will play at Colorado on Tuesday and Stars coach Lindy Ruff said the next two preseason games are the key ones.
“I see tomorrow and our home game (Thursday vs. Colorado) as being the two most important ones,” said Ruff. “The back-to-back one, the one we’ll finish the preseason with (Friday in Oklahoma City vs. Edmonton) we’ll go lighter on. Typically, your last game is your strongest lineup. I look at it that our home game will be our strongest lineup. The back-to-back game is one where we make sure we take out some of our key guys.”
Kari Lehtonen will get the start in goal on Tuesday. He could get the start on Thursday as well.
“I said I wanted to get Lehts three of the last five and Ellis two. (Lehtonen) will go tomorrow and in all likelihood the home game too,” Ruff said.
Benn, Seguin to throw out first pitch at Rangers game
Stars forwards Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin will take the mound at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington Wednesday evening. The Stars duo will throw out the first pitch prior to the Texas Rangers-Houston Astros game.
