The Dallas Stars practiced in Frisco this morning, but not everybody was on the ice. Some players were being rested due to illness.

“We’ve got a few guys that are under the weather, just flu-like,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “(Alex) Chiasson wasn’t even here today. He’s probably the worst of the group and we had a couple other guys that didn’t feel well yesterday, so we decided to try to rest most of the guys that weren’t feeling good.”

Chiasson was scheduled to meet the team this afternoon for the flight to Buffalo. Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin weren’t on the ice today, but it’s not clear if they are among the group feeling ill.

As insurance, the Stars recalled center Travis Morin from the Texas Stars Sunday afternoon. Morin, 29, currently leads the American Hockey League in scoring with 18 points (8 goals, 10) assists in 8 games. Morin played three games with Dallas in 2010-11, registering no points.

Hitting the road

Monday and Tuesday’s road games kick off a stretch that will see the Stars play eight of their next ten games away from home. After winning their first road game of the season, the Stars have dropped the last four and are 1-4-0 away from home this season.

“The only way we are going to make up any ground is become a better road team,” said Ruff. “We’ve been real close on the road.”

The Stars lost 3-2 in Colorado despite a 41-26 shots advantage. They were tied 2-2 with Los Angeles after two periods, but gave up three goals in the third period and fell 5-2. They had a 3-1 lead in Anaheim, but gave up five unanswered goals and lost 6-3.

“It starts with one game, you’ve got to win one game on the road,” said Ruff. “We’ve got to become a better road team. Some of it is defending and some of it is finishing opportunities.”

Quotable: Trevor Daley on facing Steve Ott in Buffalo on Monday

When the Stars play the Sabres Monday night in Buffalo they’ll be facing off with a familiar face in Steve Ott, who played 11 seasons for the Stars.

It will be the first time the Stars have played against Ott since he was traded to Buffalo in July 2012.

“I talked to him this morning. Obviously he is excited to play against us, too. It will be fun,” said Stars defenseman Trevor Daley. “A couple of us will probably get dinner with him tonight. He’ll feed us and then we’ll try to put him through the end boards tomorrow night.”
