The Dallas Stars will be getting one defenseman back tonight, maybe two. Sergei Gonchar is definitely in against the New York Islanders after missing six games with concussion-like symptoms.
“It will be a good addition,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “Our backend has taken a pretty big hit, and to get a healthy body back is a big thing for us.”
Trevor Daley, who has missed 14 games with a high-ankle sprain, is a game-time decision and Ruff said he will use all the time prior to the game to make a decision.
“I’ve got five more hours on that one,” Ruff said.
There are no changes among the forwards. Kari Lehtonen is expected to start in goal for the Stars.
The Stars come into Monday’s game having lost two games in a row. They’ve allowed 11 goals in those two games, and the focus heading into tonight is on tightening things up defensively.
“We generated the number of opportunities we want, I thought we just got a little loose away from the puck,” Ruff said. “You tighten that area up, you tighten up your D zone coverage and you make some better decisions with the puck.”
