Duos

Optics and statistics suggest that there is only one "more impactful to team fortunes" duo in the league this season than the Stars pair of Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. That would be the dynamic Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry in Anaheim with the Ducks.

Immediately Penguin-huggers in Pittsburgh will sound the travesty and blasphemy alarms because their beloved Sidney Crosby-Chris Kunitz and Evgeni Malkin-James Neal 'pro-mances' aren't at the head of this class.

Well, here's why they aren't:

• The drop in points from Crosby to Kunitz is 30 points, with Malkin in between. (Yes, if we must, 'Malkin in the Middle')

• The chasm between Malkin and Neal, both of whom have missed time this season, is 17

points...with Kunitz between them.

So blow it out your egg dispensers Penguin Nation.

Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn? Only a three-goal and six-point gap separates them. But the bigger evidence is the drop in points to the next Stars scorer - that cliff is 32 points. Thirty-two points down to Alex Goligoski. Plus, the pairing on the top line has been virtually exclusive since the first day of training camp in Ft. Worth.

Those two Ducks? Getzlaf and Perry have combined for 65 goals, that's more than the next four leading Ducks goal scorers combined, and they boast identical +26 ratings (To contrast, Ovechkin is -31). As far as points, it's the same six-point difference between them as that gap between Seguin and Benn, and then 23 points down to Nick Bonino who is third in team scoring. The kicker might be Game Winning Goals. 'Getz-Erry' has scored 16 of these (the Ducks have 45 wins.) 'Benn-Eguin' have posted 8.

So with 14 games remaining let’s just bow our heads at the glory that has been year one of Seguin & Benn, Benn & Seguin and their propulsion of this team's attack.

And keep the fingers crossed that we get to see the show past mid-April.
