Jets’ Wheeler crashes into open bench gate, but returns for final shift
Jets forward Blake Wheeler was hurting pretty bad late in the third period when he took a hit and then crashed into an open gate at the Dallas Stars bench. Wheeler was down on the ice briefly, and then was helped down the tunnel between the benches and to the Winnipeg locker room. But a short time later he was back on the ice, taking a shift as the Jets pushed for the tying goal in the final minute of the game.
“You saw him walking out there. You know how he’s feeling right now,” said Jets coach Paul Maurice. “Those are the things that you can hang your hat on and improve going forward. You get a guy that takes a hit like that, that’s hurting the way he is and comes back out on the bench and gives you a jump.”
