Everyone knows that hockey season is the greatest time of year and I wouldn’t have the opportunity to have the best job if it weren’t for the NHL. However, our Dallas Stars Ice Girl season starts much earlier than October. Beginning with auditions in July and the announcement of the new Dallas Stars Ice Girls squad in August, a lot of hard work and preparation lead up to home opener.

When the day finally came for me as a rookie, I couldn't wait to get into the locker room and share the excitement with the rest of my team, but as I took my first steps into the arena, I was shocked by what I saw. The amount of Victory Green that took over the American Airlines Center was mind blowing. Every single seat, on every single level, had a t-shirt with our new logo draped over the back. It was one of the most memorable sights of the season and made me even happier to be a part of the Dallas Stars.

As a rookie with the Ice Girls and being a new Texas resident, stepping out onto the concourse to meet my new community was like the first day at a new school. Southern charm immediately radiated throughout the AAC and I was instantly reminded of why I moved to Dallas. The passion for the game, the Stars and the positive energy made me so proud to wear our new logo and represent everything this organization stands for.

As game time approached, I laced up my skates and couldn’t get to the ice fast enough to be a part of the opening ceremony. It was such an honor and an absolute thrill to be standing there as our Victory Green star descended from the ceiling and the 2013-14 Dallas Stars were introduced to our city for the first time. So many wonderful feelings were running through me, and as I looked through the fog and saw the smiles on my DSIG sisters’ faces, I knew this is what we worked so hard for. Shaking my poms and cheering with the rest of the Dallas Stars fans made every practice, every photo shoot and all our dedication completely worth it.

The home opener was a great indication of what this hockey season had in store. Being back on ice is something that meant a lot to me and my first year as a Dallas Stars Ice Girl was even better than I could have ever imagined.
