“Alex is a proven NHL veteran with a track record of success in this league,” said Nieuwendyk. “He has size and ability, and we expect him to be an excellent goaltender for us.”
Auld, 28, appeared in 43 games with Ottawa during the 2008-09 season, posting a 16-18-1 record with a .911 save percentage, a 2.48 goals-against-average and one shutout.
The 6-4, 223-pound netminder has played in 183 career NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Phoenix Coyotes, Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators. He has a 74-75-25 career mark, with six shutouts, a .905 save percentage and a 2.76 goals-against-average. Auld appeared in four Stanley Cup Playoff games with Vancouver in 2003 and 2004.
The native of Cold Lake, Alta., tended goal for Team Canada at the 2006 World Championships and won a bronze medal at the 2001 World Junior Championships.
