Dallas Stars play-by-play broadcaster Ralph Strangis has been elected to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas Board of Directors. The board oversees the governance of Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas (BBBSNT), which was created when Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations from Fort Worth, Arlington, Dallas, Denton and Grayson County merged earlier this year. "We are fortunate to have so many influential board members on our North Texas board and Ralph is no exception. His energy, enthusiasm and experience with our organization will truly be an asset as we strive to grow existing programs and revenue sources to better serve the children of North Texas," said Board Chair Frank Bracken. Strangis has spent the past seven seasons as the Dallas Stars' play-by-play broadcaster and is in his 14th season with the team. Since arriving in Dallas in 1993, Strangis has been an extremely active ambassador to the community and helped to raise millions of dollars for local charitable groups. "Ralph's efforts with Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas and other local charitable causes are exceptional," said Dallas Stars President Jim Lites. "Ralph has always been extremely generous of his time, especially when it comes to helping kids. We're proud to have him as a member of our team. We congratulate him on his new post on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters." Strangis has been involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters for over the last five years. "In the five years that I have worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters, I have been getting more and more involved. This is just the next step for me," stated Strangis. "I have always believed in the mentoring process. Personally, role models played a critical part in bringing me back to a positive life path and affording me the opportunity to return the favor. By joining this board, I will have the opportunity to help other children as I myself was helped." "Ralph has been instrumental to the success of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Celebrity Golf Classic for years, added Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas CEO Charles Pierson. "We are excited that he has formalized his commitment to our mission and our organization by becoming a valued member of the North Texas board." This will be Strangis' sixth year as host of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Celebrity Golf Classic which was ranked by the Dallas Business Journal as one of the top 10 charity golf events in the Metroplex. In addition, he has spent numerous hours donating time to local youth groups such as "Serenity High" by sharing his story of personal success in the battle against alcohol and drug abuse. Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas is a volunteer organization that provides children support, guidance, friendship and fun by matching them to adult role models. The agency's mission is to enrich, encourage and empower children to reach their highest potential through safe, positive mentoring relationships. Big Brothers Big Sisters serves this mission through a professional staff that carefully works with both the volunteers and the children to ensure that the experience of Big Brothers Big Sisters is dynamic, fulfilling, memorable and fun for both the child and the volunteer.
