Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has placed right wing Rob DiMaio on the injured reserve list, retroactive to Jan. 13, with an ankle injury. The club recalled center Antti Miettinen from the Utah Grizzlies, the Stars' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
DiMaio, 35, has posted four goals and seven assists for 11 points with 42 penalty minutes in 44 appearances for Dallas this season. He is coming off a 2002-03 campaign in which he registered 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points in 69 games played. Over the course of his 16-year NHL career, the 5-10, 190-pound DiMaio has accumulated 97 goals, 150 assists, 237 points and 800 penalty minutes in 808 contests with seven teams (N.Y. Islanders, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Boston, N.Y. Rangers, Carolina and Dallas).
Miettinen, 23, has appeared in 14 contests for Utah this season, notching four goals and six assists for 10 points with four penalty minutes. His three power play goals are currently good for second on the Grizzlies. The 5-11, 180-pound center began the 2003-04 season with the Stars, scoring one goal in 14 appearances. His lone tally was the game-winner in Dallas' 3-1 triump at Nashville on Oct. 11. He was named the Finnish Elite League's Player of the Year last season while with HPK Hameenlinna, tallying 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points in 53 games.
Miettinen will join the Stars in Vancouver, as they prepare to battle the Canucks tonight at General Motors Place (9 p.m., kdfi). Dallas will wrap up this five-game road swing tomorrow night at Edmonton (8 p.m., FSN) and will take part in a home-and-home back-to-back series with St. Louis on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
