Stars agree to terms with Shayne Corson

February 18, 2004

Dallas Stars General Manger Doug Armstrong announced today that the NHL club has agreed to terms with free agent left wing Shayne Corson on a contract for the remainder of the season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the contract were disclosed.

Corson, 37, passed his physical this morning and will begin practicing with the Stars on Friday at the team's morning skate (10:30 AM at American Airlines Center) before that evening's contest between the Stars and the Colorado Avalanche. Corson will not be activated to play until he gets into game shape.

A veteran of 17 NHL seasons, including nine and a half with the Montreal Canadiens, Corson has appeared in 1,139 games (268-415-683 points, 2,328 PIM). He has also played in 135 career playoff games, scoring 38-48-86 points. Corson has been named to the NHL All-Star Game three times (1990, 1994, 1998), and represented his home country of Canada at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Corson officially announced his retirement on April 15, 2003.

"Shayne Corson is a physical veteran player who adds depth and grit to our group of forwards," said Armstrong. "We believe Shayne is a player that can help us as we head into the playoffs in our goal to compete for the Stanley Cup."

Corson played most recently with Toronto from 2000-2003, signing with the Maple Leafs as a free agent. He was originally drafted by Montreal in the first round (eighth overall) of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, spending the first six seasons of his career with the Habs. Corson played three seasons in Edmonton (1992-1995) and parts of two campaigns in St. Louis (1995-97) before rejoining the Canadiens from 1997-2000. His career total of 1,139 regular season games ranked tied for 81st most in NHL history at the beginning of this season. is the official Web site of DSE Hockey Club, L.P.  The Stars name and logos are registered trademarks of the NHL and the Stars.
