Stars sign affiliate agreement with Houston Aeros
April 13, 2004
Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has signed a one-year agreement with the Houston Aeros for the American Hockey League team to serve as a developmental affiliate for the Stars next season. The Stars are expected to place one goalie and three-to-six skaters with the Aeros in 2004-05.
"The Dallas Stars are excited about this new affiliation with the Houston Aeros," said Armstrong. "It will give their fans a chance to see some of our best prospects play and develop and one day make it to the NHL just a few hours away with the Dallas Stars."
In addition to having the Stars as an affiliate, Houston will enter its fourth season as the primary developmental affiliate of the Minnesota Wild in 2004-05.
The Stars already have strong ties to the Aeros -- Dallas Head Coach Dave Tippett was a player and head coach for the Aeros in the late 90s. Stars winger David Oliver won a Turner Cup on Tippett's 1999 Aeros team and Assistant Coach Mark Lamb finished his pro career in 2000 with Houston. Dallas Assistant Equipment Manager Steve Sumner is also a former staffer with the Aeros.
The Aeros open up the 2004 AHL playoffs this Thursday, hosting Cincinnati in the best-of-three West Division Qualifying Round.
