Stars Re-Sign Defenseman John Erskine

Erskine Accepts One-Year Qualifying Offer

FRISCO, Tex. - Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has re-signed defenseman John Erskine. Erskine accepted his one-year qualifying offer for the 2004-2005 season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal was disclosed.

Erskine, 24, appeared in 32 games with the Stars last season, posting one assist with 84 penalty minutes. He also played in five games with the Utah Grizzlies of the American Hockey League (AHL), going scoreless with 18 penalty minutes. The 6-4, 215-pound defenseman missed 23 games due to injury with Dallas last season.

In 2002-2003 with the Stars, Erskine set career-highs in goals (2) and points (2) despite playing in only 16 games. Over parts of three seasons with Dallas, Erskine has registered two goals and two assists for four points with 175 penalty minutes in 81 career games.

Playing his three years of junior hockey with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Erskine was named OHL defenseman of the year (Max Kaminsky Trophy) for the 1999-2000 season.
