DALLAS STARS EXERCISE CLUB OPTION ON JAROSLAV SVOBODA FOR 2005-06 SEASON
Left Wing Was Acquired Via Trade From Carolina in June 2004

FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has exercised its option on left wing Jaroslav Svoboda for the 2005-2006 season. Originally acquired on June 29, 2004 from Carolina in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2005 Entry Draft, Svoboda was signed to a one-year deal with a club option on August 10, 2004.

"We are excited about securing Jaroslav for the upcoming season and we feel he will be a valuable asset to the club," said Armstrong. "We were excited about his potential when we originally acquired him and we're looking forward to his contributions in a Dallas Stars sweater."

Svoboda, 25, skated briefly for Trinec Ocelari HC in his native Czech Republic last season, posting two assists and 14 penalty minutes in nine games. During the 2003-04 campaign, he appeared in 33 games for Carolina and registered three goals and one assist for four points with a +3 rating. The 6-2, 190-pound left wing also played in nine games with Lowell of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2003-04, recording two goals and two assists for four points.

An eighth round selection (208th overall) by Carolina in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Svoboda has appeared in 91 career NHL games, all with Carolina, and has collected eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points. The Cervenka, Czech Republic, native appeared in all 23 playoff games with the Hurricanes in 2002, when Carolina reached the Stanley Cup Finals before losing to Detroit in five games. In those 23 playoff contests, he posted one goal and four assists for five points.

Svoboda played on the gold-medal winning Czech Republic Team during the 2000 World Junior Championships, and he also skated for the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 1998-2000, tallying 49 goals and 76 assists for 125 points in 110 games.
