Left Wing Was Dallas' Sixth-Round Selection in 2003 Entry Draft

FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has signed left wing Francis Wathier to a three-year entry-level contract. Wathier was Dallas' sixth-round selection (No. 185 overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft from the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

"Francis Wathier is one of our promising young prospects and we're thrilled that he'll continue his development in our organization," said Armstrong. "He has excelled for the past few years with Gatineau and we expect that he will continue his ascent with us."

Wathier, 20, helped lead Gatineau to consecutive Presidents' Cup titles as QMJHL champions in 2002-03 and 2003-04, and participated in the Memorial Cup Playoffs both seasons. He tallied 27 points (nine goals and 18 assists) with 143 penalty minutes in 2002-03 and 25 points (nine goals and 16 assists) in 2003-04. In 67 games with Gatineau in 2004-05, the 6-foot-3, 198-pound left wing posted 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points to go along with 96 penalty minutes.

Wathier is a native of St. Isidore, Ontario, and briefly attended the University of Ottawa during his time in Gatineau.
