DALLAS STARS SIGN SHAWN BELLE AND B.J. CROMBEEN
Prospects Taken in 2003 Entry Draft Each Receive Three-Year Entry-Level Contracts

FRISCO, Tex. - Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has signed defenseman Shawn Belle and right wing B.J. Crombeen to three-year entry-level contracts. Belle was selected in the first round (No. 30 overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft by St. Louis, and was acquired by Dallas in exchange for goaltender Jason Bacashihua on June 25, 2004. Crombeen was Dallas' second-round selection (No. 54 overall) in the 2003 Entry Draft.

"We are very pleased to have reached agreements with Shawn Belle and B.J. Crombeen," said Armstrong. "Both players have excelled at the junior level and we look forward to their continued development in our organization."

Belle, 20, has been a member of the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League for the past five seasons, posting 13 goals and 32 assists for 45 points and 78 penalty minutes in 62 appearances last season. In 249 career games with Tri-City, Belle notched 30 goals and 84 assists for 114 points with 272 penalty minutes. Tri-City is a junior club in Kennewick, Wash., co-owned by Dallas Stars center Stu Barnes.

A native of Edmonton, Belle won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2005 World Junior Championships and a silver medal at the 2004 World Juniors. The 6-2, 224-lb. defenseman collected gold medals with Team Canada at the 2003 World Under-18 Championships and the 2002 Eight Nations Cup in Slovakia, where he was named top defenseman. Belle also won the Bobby Orr Fastest Skater Award at the 2003 Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Skills Competition.

Crombeen, 20, has played the past four seasons with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, captaining the club in 2004-05. In 248 career games with Barrie, he posted 86 goals and 84 assists for 170 points to go with 516 penalty minutes. Born in Denver, Crombeen led Barrie to the OHL playoffs in each of his four seasons, notching 21 points (nine goals and 12 assists) with 109 PIM in 44 playoff games.

A 6-2, 212-lb. right wing, Crombeen played for Team Canada and won a gold medal at the 2003 World Under-18 Championships. He is the son of Mike Crombeen, who played eight NHL seasons from 1977-1985 with the Cleveland Barons, St. Louis Blues and Hartford Whalers.
