"We're pleased to welcome Martin Skoula to the Dallas Stars organization," said Armstrong. "At 25 years old, Martin has a great deal of experience and he fits the age group of the young core group of players we're building here."

Skoula, 25, skated in 47 games for Livtinov HC in his native Czech Republic last season, posting four goals and 15 assists for 19 points and 101 penalty minutes. He split the 2003-04 campaign between Colorado and Anaheim, registering four goals and 21 assists for 25 points with 32 penalty minutes in 79 total games. The 6-2, 220-pound defenseman has played in a total of 404 career NHL games and has recorded 29 goals and 93 assists for 122 points and 200 penalty minutes.

A first round selection (No. 17 overall) by Colorado in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Skoula has skated in 68 career playoff games, all with Colorado, notching 14 points (1-13-14) and 18 PIM. Skoula was a member of Colorado's 2001 Stanley Cup championship team, appearing in all 23 playoff games and posting five points (1-4-5) for the Avalanche during their title run.

A native of Litomerice, Czech Republic, Skoula represented his country at the 2002 Winter Olympics, going scoreless in four games. He also skated for the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) from 1997-1999, tallying 21 goals and 82 assists for 103 points in 133 games.
