Mike Smith Accepts Qualifying Offer

FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has signed free agent right wing David Oliver to a one-year contract, center Yared Hagos to a two-year deal and goaltender Mike Smith accepted the team's one-year qualifying offer. Per club policy, no financial terms were disclosed.

Oliver, 34, appeared in 13 games last season with the Guilford Flames of the British National League (BNL), recording six goals and 12 assists for 18 points. In 2003-04 with the Stars, he collected seven goals and five assists for 12 points in 36 outings. The 6-0, 190-pound right wing has played in 230 career NHL games and notched 49 goals and 49 assists for 98 points. Prior to coming to Dallas, Oliver played six NHL seasons with Edmonton (1994-97), the New York Rangers (1997), Ottawa (1998-99, 2000-01) and Phoenix (1999-00). His best offensive season came with Edmonton in 1995-96, when he tallied 39 points (20-19-39) in 80 games.

Hagos, 22, played in 49 games with Timra of the Swedish Elite League last season, posting six goals and 15 assists for 21 points with 38 penalty minutes. The 6-1, 205-pound center was the Stars third round selection (70th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. During the 2003-04 season, he collected 20 points (9-11-20) with 75 penalty minutes in 48 contests with Timra. The Stockholm native skated for Team Sweden at the 2002 and 2003 World Junior Championships as well as the 2001 World U-18 Championship.

Smith, 23, appeared in 45 games with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2004-05, posting a 19-17-3 record with a 2.42 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage. The 6-3, 210-pound goaltender also notched five shutouts with the Aeroes. Dallas' fifth round pick (161st overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft played with the Utah Grizzlies (AHL) from 2002-04. In 77 career AHL games, Smith has registered a 32-33-3 record with a 2.65 goals-against-average and a .911 save percentage. With Lexington on October 26, 2002, he became the sixth goalie in ECHL history to score a goal in a 2-0 win over Dayton.
