SuperSkills Camp Returns For Second Season

The Dallas Stars SuperSkills Hockey Camp will be returning for its second season from August 20 - 24 at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco. It will be a great opportunity for youngsters to learn the fundamentals of the game of hockey directly from coaches of the Dallas Stars. For many kids who participated last year and for the ones who will be in Frisco come August, it will be a dream-come-true.

This year the camp will offer two hockey camps. The first one will build upon the success of the inaugural camp and the second one will focus on the elite and competitive hockey player. The instructors will include Stars Assistant Coaches Mark Lamb, Ulf Dahlen and Derek MacKinnon, as well as appearances by several Dallas Stars players. Brenden Morrow, Mike Modano and Trevor Daley made appearances last season and are expected to be back this year.

"This camp is a great opportunity for kids in the area to improve their hockey skills no matter their level of play," said Lamb. "For the beginner it's a chance to meet and skate alongside Stars players and coaches, and for the elite it's a chance to be exposed to drills, tactics and coaching from NHL coaches."

Run under the instruction of Lamb and MacKinnon, the camp focuses on teaching some of the special skills and attitudes necessary to continue their hockey dreams and aspire to become the next Austin Smith. Smith, from Coppell, was the first player ever selected in the NHL draft who was born and raised in the Dallas-area. He was selected by the Stars in the fifth round of last month's Entry Draft. Several of the drills ran by the coaches for the youngsters will be the exact drills the Dallas Stars players go through during the season. Sometimes for a younger player, just simply knowing that you are doing the same things in a training session as a professional for your favorite team can make a huge difference and motivate that player to improve his or her game.

"Please know that Bryce got a great deal out of the camp last year," said proud parent Robert Murphy via an email following last year's camp. "He played two games the weekend following the camp and they were the best games of his (short) career. He learned a tremendous amount and we cannot say enough about the experience. We're excited about this year's camp."

"I am very happy that our registration has doubled so far from last year's attendance," said MacKinnon. "It speaks to the quality of this camp and to the deep hockey roots in the Metroplex."

One of the great things about this camp is that the players will participate in their respective age groups or in line with their individual abilities in order to make sure that each player has an opportunity to develop rapidly by receiving full attention from the coaches.

It sounds like a great week of hockey fun and instruction and if you are interested you better reserve your spot today. To get more information or to register, please visit www.dallasstarssuperskills.com.
