DALLAS STARS SIGN JUNIOR LESSARD AND MARIUS HOLTET TO ONE-YEAR DEALS
Both Players Inked to Two-Way Contracts

FRISCO, Tex.
-- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has signed right wings Junior Lessard (pronounced leh-SAHRD) and Marius Holtet (pronounced HOHL-teht, MAIR-ee-uhs) to two-way contracts for 2007-08. Lessard will make $500,000 with Dallas ($100,000 in the minors) and Holtet is set to make $475,000 in the NHL ($75,000 in the minors).

"Junior led a good Iowa team in scoring last season and we look for him to provide good depth at our forward position this season," said Armstrong. "Marius had a solid season with Iowa in 2006-07 and we're looking for him to take another step in his career this year with our organization."

Lessard, 27, played in 65 games with Iowa last season, netting 27 goals and 25 assists for 52 points with 12 power play goals and 32 penalty minutes. He led Iowa in goals, points, power play goals and was tied for third in assists. The 6-0, 200-pound right wing also scored a goal in his only game with the Dallas Stars last year, a power play tally on Mar. 15 vs. Calgary. During Iowa's post-season run to the second round of the Calder Cup playoffs, he tied for first on the club in assists (5) and ranked second in goals (4) and points (9) in 12 outings.

Over parts of two seasons with Dallas, Lessard has registered two goals in six total games after appearing in five outings with the Stars in 2005-06. He tallied 26 goals and 32 assists for 58 points with Iowa in '05-06.

The St. Joseph de Beauce, Quebec, native won the 2004 Hobey Baker Memorial Award as the nation's top collegiate player after scoring 63 points (32-31-63) in 45 games for Minnesota-Duluth. As a senior at UMD in 2004, he led the school to its first Frozen Four appearance since 1985, and was the national leader in both goals and points. He was selected to the American Hockey Association first team, the All-America first team and was named both the uscho.com and insidecollegehockey.com National Player of the Year. In 160 games as a collegian, he recorded 74 goals and 68 assists for 142 points.

Holtet, 22, appeared in his third professional season in 2006-07 and his second with the Iowa Stars. In 66 games with Iowa, he notched 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points with 48 penalty minutes, while leading Iowa in shorthanded goals (3). In 11 post-season contests with Iowa, he netted two goals with 18 penalty minutes.

Dallas' second round selection (42nd overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Holtet is the highest drafted Norwegian-born player in NHL history. The Hamar, Norway, native represented his country most recently at the 2006 World Championships. In six games with Norway, he collected two points (1-1-2), tying for third on his team in goals. He has also represented Norway at the 2002, 2003 and 2004 World Junior Championships, leading the team in scoring in 2003 and in 2004.
