Stars Celebrate Hockey Fights Cancer 10th Anniversary

All Fans are Encouraged to Wear Pink to Wednesday's Game

The Dallas Stars have deemed Oct. 10 as Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night as the team will host the Los Angeles Kings at 7:30 pm at American Airlines Center.

Pink is the official color for supporting the fight against cancer, and the Stars are encouraging all fans to wear something pink to the game in honor of this great effort. The entire league is involved, as October has been named as the official month of Hockey Fights Cancer.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Hockey Fights Cancer (HFC) is a joint charitable initiative founded in December, 1998, by the National Hockey League and the NHL Players’ Association. It was established as a way for the hockey community to come together to fight cancer, a disease that has affected so many individuals in the hockey family. HFC’s goal is to raise money and awareness for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research. To date, HFC has raised over $9 million.

“The Dallas Stars are proud to be involved with Hockey Fights Cancer, working together with our fans and our league to help raise funds in research to find a cure,” said Stars President Jim Lites. “We encourage all of our fans to wear pink to Wednesday night’s game against the Kings to help show support.”

Stars coaches, broadcasters and management staff will be wearing official HFC pink ties at the game. Each player has a HFC decal on the back of his helmet for the month of October while all Stars staff at the game will be wearing an official HFC lapel pin. Stars defenseman Philippe Boucher has also personally autographed pink hats in honor of his father who passed away from cancer earlier this year. These hats will be on sale at the game with all proceeds going towards HFC.

“I’m honored to help give back to this great cause in memory of my dad,” said Boucher. “Too many people are affected by cancer each year and we will continue to work towards finding a cure.”

There will also be a ceremonial puck drop by Kimberly Simpson, Chief Operating Officer of Susan G Komen. Havoc Energy Drink has supplied the Havoc Fanatic Section with pink leis, Team Komen has donated T-shirts while the Dallas Stars Planet Tan Ice Girls will be donning pink outfits on Wednesday.

The Dallas Stars Foundation will be presenting a $10,000 grant check to Shelby Dabney of Clayton Dabney Foundation for Kids with Cancer. Shelby, along with friends and family, co-founded the foundation after her son Layton lost his battle with cancer at the age of six. The foundation serves disadvantaged youth and underprivileged children who are in their last stages of terminal cancer.

Please join the Dallas Stars for this special night, as we help raise money for the cause. Tickets for this game have been reduced to HALF PRICE, plus a $5-$15 donation per ticket that goes directly to raise money to fight cancer. Click here to purchase tickets and use the coupon code "STARS".

Fans are encouraged to join the fight by calling 1-800-540-6500 or logging on to www.hockeyfightscancer.com. All donations are tax-deductible.
