Signed as a free agent by Dallas on Apr. 15, 2004, Lessard won the 2004 Hobey Baker Award as the nation's top collegiate player, after scoring 63 points (32-31-63) in 45 games at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He led the nation in both goals and points as a senior.
