Zubov Named to 2008 All-Star Squad

DALLAS STARS DEFENSEMAN ZUBOV
NAMED TO 2008 WESTERN CONFERENCE NHL ALL-STAR TEAM
Russian D-Man Will Head to All-Star Game for Fourth Time

FRISCO, Tex. – The National Hockey League announced today that Dallas Stars defenseman Sergei Zubov has been named to the 2008 Western Conference NHL All-Star Team, to be played Sunday, January 27 in Atlanta.

Zubov, 37, will be making his fourth NHL All-Star appearance (1998, 1999, 2000, 2008). In 43 games this season, he has collected four goals and 31 assists for 35 points, leading Dallas in assists and average time on ice (25:56). Among NHL defensemen, he ranks second in assists and third in points. He is the only defensemen to record 30-plus assists for 12 straight seasons now and is just five points away from becoming the only NHL blueliner with 12 straight campaigns of 40-plus points.

“This is a huge honor for me and I am very excited to represent my team at the All-Star Game,” said Zubov. “My teammates had a lot to do with this because I would obviously not being going if it wasn’t for them. It should be a fun weekend and I’m really looking forward to it.”

For the first time in his career, Zubov was nominated for the Norris Trophy following the 2005-06 season and was also named to the NHL Second All-Star Team. In 1,055 games over his career with the New York Rangers (1992-95), the Pittsburgh Penguins (1995-96) and the Stars (1996-Present), he has tallied 152 goals and 615 assists for 767 points. He is the highest scoring Russian defenseman in NHL history and is third all-time among European defenseman (Nicklas Lidstrom and Borje Salming).

A two-time Stanley Cup winner (1999 with Dallas and 1994 with the Rangers) and Olympian (1992), Zubov has also played in 153 career playoff games. During the post-season over his career, he has notched 23 goals and 88 assists for 111 points. In 1994, he became the first defensemen to lead a team in scoring that finished first overall in the NHL. During the 1993-94 season with New York, he registered 89 points (12-77-89) in 78 contests.
