Zubov Has Foot Surgery

Russian Blueliner Will Not Skate For 3-4 Weeks

FRISCO, Tex. – The Dallas Stars announced today that defenseman Sergei Zubov had surgery on Sunday to insert a screw in the fractured bone in his foot and will not skate for three to four weeks.

Zubov, 37, has missed the past 17 games with the injury and has missed 20 total games this season due to injury. Despite playing in just 46 games this season, he ranks first on the team in average ice time (25:41), third in assists (31) and fourth in points (35). Earlier this season, he became just the 15th defensemen in NHL history to record 600 assists when he notched a helper on Nov. 21 vs. Anaheim. Named to the NHL All-Star Game in Atlanta this season, he was unable to participate due to injury. It would have been his fourth All-Star appearance.

The 6-1, 198-pound defenseman, has played in 1,058 career NHL games, recording 152 goals and 615 assists for 767 points. Following the 2005-06 season, Zubov was nominated for the Norris Trophy for the first time in his career. A two-time Stanley Cup winner (1994 w/ NY Rangers and 1999 w/ Dallas), he is currently the only defensemen to collect 30+ assists over the past 12 seasons.
