Throughout training camp, different members of the Dallas Stars will sit down and share their thoughts on the day’s events leading up until Opening Night.

Day 8: September 26, 2008
Center Mike Ribeiro

It feels good to be back, and it’s great seeing everyone every day. I love watching the young guys get better as camp progresses, as well as getting a feel for the new guys and seeing how they play. I’m anxious to play some more games and start winning a bit, and then I think everything will be OK.

Last night’s game wasn’t the outcome we wanted, but it was still good. For the first skate for some of us, I thought we created a lot of opportunities offensively – we had a lot of shots in the first period, I think. The power play is something that needs some work, but this was only the first home game, so we have some time to work on that and get it up to speed by the start of the regular season. It was great to watch the young guys last night, too. I thought they did well and, like I said, you want to win, too, so hopefully Saturday we can do that.

Even though we’ve lost the first two games, no one’s really concerned. You want to win, obviously, but it is the preseason and we’re still working with different lineups every day. I’m sure Saturday our team will look a bit closer to how it will look toward the beginning of the season, and it will be nice to see how we’re going to react to the game and hopefully we’ll pull out a win.

I played on a line with Fabian Brunnstrom yesterday, and it was good to see what he can do. He’s got some great skills and he holds on to the puck long enough to make some good plays. It was nice to play with him. Guys like Sean Avery, too. He’s not someone we’ve seen a lot, but you can see he’s got a lot of speed and a lot of talent. There are a lot of young guys here with skills, too, and hopefully they can get better and come help the team.

Last night, Morrow and I seemed to pick up a bit from where we left off last season. We kind of have to! We didn’t play together during the first training camp scrimmage, and yesterday was probably the first time we were on a line together again. We just know how to play together, and it was nice to have Brunnstrom with us, too, with his skills. I think Saturday will be me, Brenden and Lehts and it’s going to be nice to be together again and try and create offense and hopefully win the game with the team.
