NEW YORK (Dec. 1, 2005) -- Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco, who led all goaltenders in victories with a 10-2-0 record, 1.90 goals-against average, .924 save percentage and one shutout, has been named the NHL Defensive Player of the Month for November.

Turco edged Calgary Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff (8-2-0, 1.77 goals-against average) and Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Curtis Joseph (7-3-0, 1.79 goals-against average) for the award.

Turco allowed two goals or fewer in nine of 12 appearances, including his 22nd career NHL shutout in a 4-0 victory against the Edmonton Oilers Nov. 7 and a season-high 40 saves in a 3-1 victory at Anaheim Nov. 13. He also had a perfect record in his two shootout appearances, stopping Colorado's Milan Hejduk and Alex Tanguay in a 3-2 victory Nov. 5 and San Jose's Patrick Marleau and Jonathan Cheechoo in a 3-2 victory Nov. 12.

Appearing in 21 of the Stars' 24 games this season, Turco has posted a 14-6-1 record, 2.60 goals-against average and .901 save percentage. The 30-year-old native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario leads all goaltenders in victories.
