Training Camp Blog: Day Thirteen

Throughout training camp, different members of the Dallas Stars will sit down and share their thoughts on the day’s events leading up until Opening Night.

Day 13: October 1, 2008
Defenseman Philippe Boucher

Boucher skated Wednesday morning in Frisco and is ready to rejoin the team in practice when they return from Colorado.

Camp has definitely tested my patience this year, but I’m doing well. My frustration level was very high when I found out about my injury but you move on. It’s something I have had to deal with before and hopefully I get one preseason game in before the real deal.

My foot started out being on-and-off sore during the summer. I was out skating for a little bit before I found out what it was. You do have some frustration but you also look on the bright side -- I would rather have that problem now then at mid-season. Hopefully, I can get back skating now. I think I am going to join the group tomorrow when the guys get back here for full practice and I’ll just move forward.

After last year I was looking forward to playing a lot of pre-season games but a few weeks ago I found that it was not to be. You just have to make the most of it and stay in the best shape you can. You try to put the injury behind you as early as you can so you don’t have it hang on you all year long. From here my focus is game one of the season on October 10 against Columbus.

Monday was my first day on the ice since getting treatment and resting the injury. I can tell you this – I was the ‘First Star’ on Monday. I skated on my own in the practice rink. The last two days I skated with Landon (Wilson). I feel good. I obviously need bodies around me and to be in some game situations in practice but I feel good out there. I am definitely on the ice tomorrow; most of the guys will not skate since they have a game tonight but I will be out there.
I am not as sore as I thought I would be out on the ice. I actually have a harder time walking than skating at the moment. That’s just something I am going to have to deal with for a while. On the ice, under control by myself, it feels good. We’ll see how it feels with other people on the ice and in different situations. I am excited because I feel better than I thought I would.

It’s a big year for me; it’s a big year for the team. Everybody is excited about what happened last year. One thing we realized is that last year everyone was down on our team before the season started. We know how much hard work it took to get to where we got and our goal is to go farther than that. We realized as a team from day one at camp how much work is going to have to go in it again if we are going to achieve those goals. I have the same goals that everyone in the locker room has and that is to be playing for the Stanley Cup in June.
