Glue Guys Return

The Stars will play a home game for the first time in over two weeks on Thursday, and the team will have a few pieces that it did not have the last time there was a hockey game at American Airlines Center.

The team signed veteran winger Mark Parrish last week to a one-year deal and the move paid off immediate dividends with a hat trick in his first game – a 5-2 win at Anaheim last Friday.

More importantly, the Stars got two key members of the team back from injury with the season debuts of Sergei Zubov and Jere Lehtinen during the three-game trip to California.

“They’re both what I like to call ‘glue guys,’” said Stars Head Coach Dave Tippett. “Zubie and Lehts are both excellent players and they contribute in so many ways. It’s good to have them back.”

Zubov returned on Friday at Anaheim, missing the first 12 games of the season as he recovered from hip surgery at the beginning of training camp. Lehtinen returned on Tuesday at Los Angeles, scoring a goal in his return.

Both have looked solid in their return to game play.

“Lehts is a solid player and there aren’t many who are more dependable," said Mike Modano. “He makes his entire line better with his all-around play. And Zubie is a rock back there, playing a ton of minutes and a factor in all situations for us.”

The Stars host the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday at American Airlines Center (7:30 PM, FS Southwest, News/Talk 820 WBAP).

No Discipline to Morrow or Tippett
The NHL has deemed that both Brenden Morrow and Dave Tippett will not receive any further discipline from Tuesday night’s penalties in the last minute of regulation at Los Angeles.

Morrow received an instigator penalty in the final minute of regulation when he fought Kings forward Dustin Brown after Brown hit Stars forward Mike Ribeiro into the boards.

The league has rescinded both the automatic one-game suspension to Morrow and the $10,000 fine to Tippett. NHL rules deem any player who instigates a fight in the final five minutes receives an automatic one-game suspension and his coach shall be fined $10,000, but the NHL reserves the right to review each case and determine whether it meets the "spirit of the rule." The rule was instituted to cut down on late-game aggression and unnecessary fighting, especially when the outcome of the game was already determined.

Morrow's instigating of the fight with Brown was purely in reaction to Brown's hit on Ribeiro. Brown was ejected from the game and assessed a five-minute major for boarding. No further disciplinary action is expected.
