December 21, 2005

Vancouver, B.C. - Hockey Canada announced today the 23-man roster for the 2006 Men's Olympic Team that will compete in Turin, Italy beginning on February 15. Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco was selected as one of the three goaltenders for Team Canada.

"This is something that I will never forget and will cherish as long as I live," said Turco. "Growing up in Canada, you always dream of winning the Stanley Cup and playing for your country at the Olympics. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to play for Team Canada in Italy and I will give them everything that I have, in whatever role they want me to play."

Turco, 30, will be making his inaugural appearance at the Olympic Games. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native has played in 27 games with Dallas this season, recording an 18-8-1 mark with a 2.51 goals-against-average and a .903 save percentage. Among league leaders, he ranks first in wins, tied for third in shutouts and 10th in goals-against-average.

Over his past 18 games, Turco is now 14-4-0 with a 1.99 goals-against-average, a .919 save percentage and two shutouts. During that span, he was named NHL Defensive Player of the Month for November and NHL Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 14. Throughout his career, he has played in 212 NHL games, collecting a 114-55-26 record with a 1.99 goals-against-average and a .919 save percentage.

Dallas now has three players named to two separate Olympic teams - U.S.A. (Mike Modano and Bill Guerin), Canada (Marty Turco).
