Stars Extend Turco Contract

January 5, 2006

STARS SIGN MARTY TURCO TO FOUR-YEAR EXTENSION
All-Star Goalie Inked Thru 2009-2010 Season

FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has signed goaltender Marty Turco to a four-year extension through the 2009-2010 season. Turco's current contract was set to expire at the conclusion of this season.

"Marty is a very important part of our team and has proven himself to be one of the best goaltenders in the NHL," said Armstrong. "We believe in Marty and his ability to lead this hockey club to the ultimate goal of competing for the Stanley Cup."

Turco, 30, has appeared in 33 games with the Stars this season, going 20-11-2 with a 2.44 goals-against-average and a .901 save percentage with three shutouts. Among goaltending league leaders, he ranks tied for second in wins, tied for second in shutouts and tied for seventh in goals-against-average. He was recently named to the Canadian Olympic Team to represent his country at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.

The two-time NHL All-Star (2003, 2004) has appeared in 218 career NHL contests (all with Dallas), registering a 116-59-26 record with a 1.99 goals-against-average and a .919 save percentage. His 1.99 goals-against-average is the fourth best in NHL history (minimum of 100 games played).

During the 2002-03 season, Turco finished second in voting for the Vezina Trophy (Brodeur) in his first year as an NHL starter. He also collected the best goals-against-average since World War II at 1.72, shattering the former record of 1.77. Winning his second MBNA Roger Crozier Saving Grace Award for best save percentage (also in 2001), Turco was named to the NHL Second All-Star Team.

The Stars' fifth round selection (124th overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Turco still holds the NCAA record for most career victories, posting a lifetime 127-28-7 record (.806 winning percentage) for the University of Michigan. He took the Wolverines to the Frozen Four in each of his four years at the school, winning two National Championships in 1996 and in 1998.

"My past few weeks have been absolutely amazing after being named to the Canadian Olympic Team and now getting signed to this extension," said Turco. "I couldn't be happier and am very motivated to fulfill the expectations that come with a contract like this.

"I want to thank the Dallas organization for the opportunity they have given me to succeed and I look forward to continuing my play with the Dallas Stars."
