The Dallas Stars have the eighth overall selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, with the first round taking place on Friday, June 26 (VERSUS, 6 pm). Rounds 2-7 will be held on Saturday, June 27 (coverage on NHL Network and NHL.com).

This draft marks the first time for Dallas to have a top-10 pick since 1996 when Dallas selected Richard Jackman with the fifth overall pick. The highest that the Stars have picked in the 12 subsequent drafts since was 25th (twice), selecting Brenden Morrow in 1997 ( VIDEO) and Steve Ott in 2000 ( VIDEO).
