DALLAS STARS ACTIVATE JANNE NIINIMAA FROM INJURED RESERVE
Dan Jancevski Reassigned to Iowa

FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has activated defenseman Janne Niinimaa (NEE-nihm-uh, YAH-nee) from the injured reserve list and reassigned defenseman Dan Jancevski (jan-SEV-ski) to the Iowa Stars, the Stars' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Niinimaa, 30, was acquired by the Stars in a trade from the New York Islanders on Jan. 10, 2006. The Raahe, Finland native missed Dallas' last seven games, Jan. 23 - Feb. 4, with a sore ankle. He has appeared in 46 games with both New York and the Stars this season, posting one goal and 10 assists for 11 points with 70 penalty minutes. The 6-1, 220-pound defenseman collected his first point as a Dallas Star with an assist on Jan. 20 vs. Tampa Bay.

A member of the 1997 NHL All-Rookie Team, Niinimaa played in the 2001 NHL All-Star Game while a member of the Edmonton Oilers. The two-time Olympian with Finland (1998, 2002) has appeared in 683 career NHL games, recording 52 goals and 259 assists for 311 points with 681 penalty minutes.

Jancevski, 24, was recalled on Feb. 3 and made his NHL debut on Feb. 4 at St. Louis, going scoreless in 5:58 minutes. He has appeared in 45 games for the Iowa Stars this season, posting four goals and 13 assists for 17 points, to go along with a +7 rating and 59 penalty minutes. Three of Jancevski's goals this season have come on the power play, as the Windsor, Ont., native is serving as Iowa's captain in its inaugural season of play.

The 6-3, 220-pound defenseman was Dallas second round selection (No. 66 overall) in the 1999 Entry Draft. After a successful junior career with London and Sudbury of the Ontario Hockey League, Jancevski spent three seasons with the Utah Grizzlies (2001-04) and one with the Hamilton Bulldogs (2004-05). In 358 career games at the AHL level, Jancevski has recorded 16 goals and 73 assists for 89 points with 712 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 11 AHL playoff games, notching one assist and 18 PIM.

The Dallas Stars are currently 36-15-3 on the season and stand in first place in the Pacific Division and second in the Western Conference. The club takes on the Nashville Predators tonight at 7 p.m. at American Airlines Center (OLN, WBAP 820 AM).
