Forward Replaces Injured Dallas Star Antti Miettinen
FRISCO, Tex. -- The Finnish Ice Hockey Association announced today that Stars left wing Niklas Hagman has been added to Team Finland for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy, replacing Dallas teammate Antti Miettinen, who has pulled out of the games with an upper body injury. Hagman, who will be making his second Olympics appearance (also 2002 in Salt Lake City), joins Stars teammates Jussi Jokinen, Niko Kapanen and Jere Lehtinen on Team Finland.
The Stars have a total of seven Olympians who will represent their countries in Turin, which is tied for the sixth-most among all NHL teams. Mike Modano and Bill Guerin will each make their third Olympic appearance for Team USA, while Marty Turco will represent Canada for the first time. Lehtinen will skate for Finland in his fourth Olympics, while Kapanen and Jokinen will each be making their first appearance in the Winter Games.
Hagman, 26, has appeared in 60 NHL games this season with Dallas and Florida, scoring five goals and eight assists for 13 points. The Stars acquired him from Florida on December 12 in exchange for a 2007 seventh round draft pick. Hagman is currently in his fourth NHL season, scoring 33 goals and 54 assists for 87 points in 293 career games.
