DALLAS STARS SIGN MATTHEW BARNABY FOR 2006-07 SEASON

FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has signed right wing Matthew Barnaby to a one-year deal for the 2006-07 season. Per club policy, no financial terms were disclosed.

"Matthew has 13 NHL seasons under his belt and brings almost 800 NHL games of experience to our hockey club," said Armstrong. "We look forward to adding his hard, aggressive style of play to our team next season."

Barnaby, 33, appeared in all 82 games with the Chicago Blackhawks last season, posting eight goals and 20 assists for 28 points with 178 penalty minutes. He was one of three Chicago players to appear in all 82 contests with the Blackhawks in 2005-06 and led his team in penalty minutes.

The 6-1, 191-pound right wing has appeared in 13 NHL seasons with Buffalo (1993-99), Pittsburgh (1999-01), Tampa Bay (2001), NY Rangers (2001-2004), Colorado (2004), and Chicago (2004-06). Posting his best offensive season with Buffalo in 1996-97, Barnaby collected 19 goals and 24 assists for 43 points with 249 penalty minutes in 68 games. In 795 career NHL games, he has registered 112 goals and 181 assists for 293 points with 2,435 penalty minutes.

The Ottawa, Ontario, native has also played in 62 career playoff games, tallying seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points with 170 penalty minutes. During the 1998 post-season with the Buffalo Sabres, Barnaby recorded seven goals and six assists for 13 points in just 15 games, leading the team in goals and tying for first in points. In Game Two of the Eastern Conference Semifinals versus Montreal in 1998, he collected a hat trick with three goals and an assist to become the fifth Buffalo player in team history to register three goals in a playoff game.

Buffalo's fourth round selection (83rd overall) in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, Barnaby was traded to Pittsburgh from Buffalo in exchange for current Stars center Stu Barnes on March 11, 1999. During his junior career, he appeared in 180 games with Beauport and Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, notching 82 goals and 109 assists for 191 points with 1,186 penalty minutes.
