Stars Make Roster Moves

DALLAS STARS PLACE CENTER PATRIK STEFAN AND
LEFT WING VOJTECH POLAK ON INJURED RESERVE
Newly Acquired Mike Ribeiro Granted Non-Roster Status

FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has placed center Patrik Stefan (hip injury) and left wing Vojtech Polak (mild concussion) on the injured reserve list. The team also announced that center Mike Ribeiro (pronounced rih-BAIR-oh) was granted non-roster status by the NHL as he awaits immigration clearance. Ribeiro will not play in Dallas' season opener in Colorado tomorrow night (9 p.m. CDT, VERSUS and WBAP 820 AM), but is scheduled to practice with the Stars on Thursday in Frisco (Noon to 1 p.m.).

Stefan, 26, was scoreless in four preseason games with the Stars in 2006. He was acquired by Dallas from Atlanta with Jaroslav Modry in exchange for Niko Kapanen and a 2006 seventh round pick on June 24, 2006.

In 64 games with the Thrashers last season, Stefan scored 10 goals and added 14 assists for 24 points with 36 penalty minutes and a +3 rating. The number one overall pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by Atlanta has appeared in 414 career NHL games and registered 59 goals and 118 assists for 177 points with 148 penalty minutes.

Ribeiro, 26, was acquired by Dallas on September 30 and appeared in 79 games with Montreal last season. He recorded 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points with 36 penalty minutes. Among team leaders, he ranked third in power play goals (8), fourth in assists and fourth in points. He also played in all six playoff games with the Canadiens last year, collecting two assists.

The 6-0, 175-pound center registered his best offensive NHL season with Montreal in 2003-04 when he notched 20 goals and 45 assists for 65 points with a +15 rating in 81 games. During the '03-04 season, Ribeiro led Montreal in points, assists, was second in game-winning goals (5), tied for second in plus/minus and in power play goals (7), and was third in goals. In 11 post-season outings with Montreal in 2004, he tallied two goals and one assist for three points with 18 penalty minutes.

Polak, 21, suffered his mild concussion during training camp and did not play in a preseason game with the Stars. Last season, he was scoreless in three games with Dallas. The 5-10, 180-pound left wing also collected 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points with 41 penalty minutes in 60 games with the Iowa Stars (AHL).
