NHL All-Star Monday Events Set

January 19, 2007

1999 Dallas Stars Stanley Cup Reunion
American Airlines "Salute to a Generation of Stars"
All-Star Practices presented by Idearc Media, Official Publishers of the Verizon Yellow Pages

The 2007 NHL All-Star Celebration events at American Airlines Center are set to begin this coming Monday, January 22.

Eleven members of the 1999 Dallas Stars team that won the Stanley Cup will get back together for a reunion this Monday at American Airlines Center to kick-off three nights of fantastic events at the 2007 NHL All-Star Celebration. Scheduled to participate include current Stars players Mike Modano, Darryl Sydor & Sergei Zubov, and former Stars Shawn Chambers, Benoit Hogue, Brett Hull, Craig Ludwig, Joe Nieuwendyk, Dave Reid, Brian Skrudland, and Pat Verbeek. The group will be escorting the Stanley Cup onto the plaza to begin the All-Star festivities for the evening.

The reunion will begin at approximately 4:45 pm on the South Plaza of American Airlines Center. The event is free to all fans who wish to attend (arriving early is encouraged). Stars broadcaster Ralph Strangis will serve as emcee with Dallas Mayor Laura Miller, NHL Vice President Ken Yaffe and Stars President Jim Lites also participating in the event. The TCU Drum Line will perform and 300 youth hockey players from the Metroplex will also be on hand. TV and media still photography are all encouraged to attend for some terrific photo ops. Media interviews with members of the 1999 team will be available after the ceremony concludes.

Following the reunion ceremony, the Monday event inside the arena will begin at 6 pm, with the American Airlines "Salute to a Generation of Stars" and the All-Star Team Open Practices, presented by Idearc Media, official publishers of the Verizon Yellow Pages. This great event will combine open practices of the 2007 Eastern and Western All-Star teams with a tribute to 11 hockey legends of the NHL. This salute will serve as a showcase of two generations of hockey players: those who dominated and those inspired by their greatness. Academy Award winning actor and long-time hockey fan Cuba Gooding Jr. will host the festivities.

NHL legends scheduled to appear include: 19-time All-Star Ray Bourque; Hockey Hall of Famer and three-time Norris Trophy winner Paul Coffey; top-scoring US-born skater Phil Housley; 1999 Stanley Cup winner with the Dallas Stars Brett Hull; Hockey Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux; Olympic Gold Medalist and 13-time All-Star Al MacInnis; six-time Stanley Cup winner and 15-time All-Star Mark Messier; Hockey Hall of Famer Larry Murphy; four-time All-Star Joe Nieuwendyk; five-time All-Star Adam Oates and eight-time All-Star Luc Robitaille.

Fans in attendance on Monday will have the opportunity to cheer for these great players one more time and applaud their marvelous careers. Each individual "salute" will include highlight clips of the player's career, as well as some testimonials from other NHL players, teammates and coaches who competed with and against them. These legends will then come out one-by-one to the main stage and do a quick interview with Gooding, Jr. Local DFW youth hockey players will participate in the ceremony as well, carrying individual banners of the legends.

Fans will have the opportunity to see both the Western Conference team and the Eastern Conference team practice, with fun drills to show off the teams' skill. There will be interviews and live commentary from the ice, bringing the fans into the action on the playing surface. All of the NHL All-Star players are scheduled to participate.

The Dallas Stars worked closely with the National Hockey League and the NHLPA to make this great event happen. It was created specifically for the fans of Dallas and is a fantastic option to see all of the NHL All-Stars in action for anyone who cannot come to the Tuesday events or the All-Star Game on Wednesday.

Tickets to this great event are still available. Fans can purchase tickets on-line at or by calling 214-GO-STARS.

FSN Southwest will televise live coverage of the Monday event from 6-8 pm, including highlights from the Stanley Cup reunion. Host John Rhadigan will be joined by Stars broadcasters Ralph Strangis and Daryl Reaugh.

Tuesday's event at American Airlines Center features the YoungStars Game, presented by Upper Deck and the Dodge Nitro/NHL SuperSkills from 6:30-9 p.m. The League's brightest young players will take center stage at the NHL YoungStars Game, presented by Upper Deck. Dallas Star Jussi Jokinen has been selected to play in the YoungStars Game. Then the NHL All-Stars show off their skating, puck-handling and shooting skills in the Dodge Nitro/NHL SuperSkills. The league has added a shootout competition to this year's event.

Wednesday is the main event - the 55th NHL All-Star Game, featuring the best hockey players in the world. Dallas Stars Philippe Boucher and Marty Turco have been selected to play in this year's event. Opening face-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
