Fabian Brunnstrom Q & A

DallasStars.com recently caught up with Stars forward Fabian Brunnstrom, who talked about his workouts in Sweden over the summer, the changes he dealt with in his first NHL season and his goals for 2009-10.

Brunnstrom Video Highlights
DallasStars.com: How has your first NHL offseason been going?

Brunnstrom:
I have been in Sweden for the most of the time since the season ended and I just got back in Dallas to gear up for training camp. I was in Paris for a week to attend the NHLPA meetings earlier this summer, but mostly I was hanging out with friends, family and some of my teammates from my old team in Sweden. It was great to see them all again after a long season in the NHL.

Tell us about your workouts in Sweden.

Brunnstrom:
I have been working out almost every day in Sweden. I have a personal trainer there. He had a tough schedule for me, but at the same time I tried to relax and rest my body before this season. We worked on a balance between getting stronger, increasing my endurance and becoming more flexible in the offseason with my trainer. I skated a few times while I was in Sweden but not much.

You had a big season for the Stars in 2008-09 and scored some very timely goals including five game-winners, what did you learn from your rookie season in the NHL?

Brunnstrom:
I learned a lot of things last season. It was a huge change for me last year coming into the NHL for the first time. The game was so different, maybe I did not expect it to be as much of a change, but now I feel that I know more about the game and I am more comfortable on the ice. I know how tough it is now and I will be better prepared this season.

You heated up at the very end of the season scoring four goals in the last five games, are you going to pick up where you left off to get this team going?

Brunnstrom:
You always want to play well. Being consistent throughout season is a goal for me, as it is for every player on this team. I felt good at the end of last season and hopefully that will continue.

You know what to expect this season now that you have a year under your belt in the NHL, what do you think you can improve upon this season from last?

Brunnstrom:
The first goal is a team goal, to be better and make the playoffs. As for myself, I need to be better with positioning during the game. I want to become stronger both offensively and defensively next season also.

How important is a strong start for the team this year?

Brunnstrom:
It is very important because of the way we finished in the standings and the way we started last season. I think everyone is going to be ready and more focused this year so I don’t expect a repeat of last season’s start.
