On the Farm Report: 12-3-09

We take another look at the Stars’ prospects in minor league, college and junior hockey.

Texas Stars (AHL):
Vishnevskiy
The Texas Stars fell to the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday night in Cedar Park by a score of 2-0. Matt Climie made 31 saves on 33 shots. Defensemen Andrew Hutchinson and Ivan Vishnevskiy each registered five shots on goal, but were unable to beat Milwaukee goalie Chet Pickard.

Texas will not play again until this Friday, when they travel to Milwaukee for a rematch against the Admirals. The six days between games is one of the longest stretches without a game for the Stars this season, following a demanding run of 10 games in 17 days.

Krahn wins award

Texas Stars’ goaltender Brent Krahn, who finished the month of November with a 5-1-0 record and a 1.16 GAA, was named Reebok/AHL Goaltender of the Month. Krahn had back-to-back shutouts and a shutout streak of 162:36 in mid-November. Krahn is 10-2-0 overall this season and leads the AHL with a 1.41 GAA and a .958 save percentage. Texas recalls two from Idaho
Texas recalled goaltender Richard Bachman and forward Mathieu Tousignant from the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL) Tuesday. Bachman, 22, led the league with nine wins and had a 2.12 GAA in 12 games. Tousignant, 20, ranked third on the team with 17 points (6-11-17) and ranked second with 53 penalty minutes in 20 games. Texas also sent defenseman Trevor Ludwig back down to Idaho.


Noteworthy:
Texas sits atop the West Division at 15-5-4 (34 points). Rockford is in second place with 27 points. The Stars’ 45 goals-against is the best in the league.

The Stars continue to be one of the best-behaved teams in the league, racking up only 312 penalty minutes – an average of 13 per contest, the fewest in the AHL.

Idaho Steelheads (ECHL):
The Idaho Steelheads, Dallas’ ECHL affiliate, are off to a hot start at 16-3-1 (33 points). The Steelheads swept the Stockton Thunder, winning all three games last week. Idaho hosts the Alaska Aces Thursday and Friday before traveling to Utah to take on the Grizzlies on Saturday. They begin a six-game home stand, beginning with a three-game set against the Ontario Reign next Wednesday.

Elsewhere:
Defenseman Jordie Benn, the younger brother of Dallas Stars’ left wing Jamie Benn, has missed the last four games for the Allen Americans (CHL) with a groin injury. Benn went on injured reserve Nov. 21 after he aggravated the injury that originated from a game in October. Benn has two goals, four assists and 33 penalty minutes in 14 games with Allen.
