On the Farm Report: 2-11-10

We take another look at the Stars’ prospects in minor league, college, junior and European hockey leagues.

Texas Stars (AHL):

Climie

The Texas Stars lost 6-3 to the Peoria Rivermen Friday night in Cedar Park. Peoria put the Stars in a hole early, scoring the first four goals of the game. Garrett Stafford scored a goal and Francis Wathier picked up two assists in a comeback effort that ultimately fell short. Texas’ penalty kill went 3-for-3, and the Stars scored once on the power play as well.

Texas rebounded Saturday, shutting the Rivermen out 5-0, despite only taking 15 shots on goal. Matt Climie stopped all 41 Peoria shots, including 19 in the third period, for his third shutout of the season. Mathieu Beaudoin and Sergei Korostin each scored their 12th goal of the season, and Beaudoin added a pair of assists. In the third period, Luke Gazdic set up Raymond Sawada for the Stars’ fifth goal.

Texas fell to the Grand Rapids 2-1 on Tuesday in the third game of a five-game home stand. Climie made 27 saves on 29 shots, but Texas was unable to score until the 15:58 mark of the third period, when Trevor Ludwig scored on a shot from the blueline. Texas dropped to 29-16-7 with the loss.

The Stars finish their home stand with a games Friday and Saturday against the Chicago Wolves. After that, the team will head northeast to play the Hamilton Bulldogs on Tuesday and the Syracuse Crunch on Wednesday.

Idaho Steelheads (ECHL):
The Idaho Steelheads enjoyed another successful week, starting with a 2-0-1 series away from home against the Las Wranglers. The Steelheads dropped Thursday’s game 5-4 in the shootout, but won 3-2 on Friday and 4-2 on Saturday. Idaho started a three-game series against the Utah Grizzlies Wednesday with a 1-0 win, improving their record to 33-11-3 (69 points). Richard Bachman stopped all 24 shots he faced to preserve the shutout.

The Steelheads play Utah again Friday and Saturday at home before having five days without a game.

Elsewhere:

Defensemen Jordie Benn, the brother of Dallas Stars’ left wing Jamie Benn, plays for the Allen Americans of the Central Hockey League. Benn missed Allen’s games on Friday and Saturday with an injury, but is expected back in the lineup soon. The Americans have a busy week, with a game against Tulsa on Thursday, an away game against Amarillo on Friday, games against Texas Saturday and Monday, and a trip to Arizona for games next Wednesday and Thursday.
