StarPoints For 3\/10 vs Buffalo

Dallas Stars (29-24-12) @ Buffalo Sabres (35-20-9)
6:00PM CT - HSBC Arena
Television - KDFI My27
Radio - Sportsradio 1310 The Ticket

1.)  Wednesday’s game is the only matchup between the Dallas Stars and Buffalo Sabres this season. The Stars lost at home to the Sabres last season 5-4 in a shootout, despite goals from Steve Ott, Trevor Daley, Matt Niskanen and Brad Richards. The last time the Stars won in Buffalo was June 19, 1999 – game six of the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals, the night the Stars won the franchise’s first Stanley Cup.

2.)  Brad Richards scored a goal and an assist before converting in the shootout against Washington Monday. Despite the Stars’ struggles following the Olympic break, Richards has scored at least one point in each game, and has 12 points (3-9-12) in his last 10 games.

3.)  The Stars held Washington off the board during a 5-on-3 power play on Monday that lasted 1:25. The Stars are now a perfect 8-for-8 on two-man disadvantages, and 5-for-5 when they last longer than one minute. Vancouver and Minnesota are the only other teams yet to surrender a goal while down two skaters. Meanwhile, Dallas is 4-for-20 with a two-man advantage.

4.)  Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller was the hero for Team USA at the Olympics, leading the Americans to a victory over Canada in group play and forcing overtime in the gold medal game. Since the resumption of NHL play last week, Miller is 2-1-0, including overtime wins against Philadelphia and the New York Rangers, allowing just five goals in the three games with a .952 save percentage.

5.)  Stars fans may also remember Sabres’ forward Mike Grier from his days with the Edmonton Oilers. Grier played 22 playoff games against the Stars between 1997 and 2001 with Edmonton, and another six in 2008 as a member of the San Jose Sharks. Grier is the only player on the Sabres’ roster with more than 25 regular season games against the Stars (he has 44), and his 37 penalty minutes against Dallas are the most for him against any team.
