Here are some notes around the unfortunate end to a fairly impressive television streak. To give fans an idea – roughly half of the 30 teams in the league televise every game this season; it was at about 10 teams back in 2000-2001 (DAL, NYR, DET, COL, BUF, PHI, BOS, MTL, OTT, and maybe one or two others). Notables that do not televise every game this year: MIN, LA, ANA, CGY, VAN, EDM, among others.
The Stars will snap a string of 1,101 consecutive games (including playoff games) televised in DFW this Sunday vs. Colorado (2 pm). Among them, 974 came in the regular season, while 127 were in the playoffs. This streak began with the final five games of the 1996-97 season and will end in the Stars’ 67th game of the 2009-10 season vs. LA this Friday. The Stars televised every game for 11 consecutive seasons (1997-98 -- 2008-09). Most of these contests were televised on FOX Sports Southwest or My27, with others coming on VERSUS, NBC, KDFW-TV, ESPN, ESPN2, ABC, or FOX.
The last Stars regular season game not televised in Dallas-Ft. Worth: April 4, 1997 at Anaheim.
NHL Center Ice customers in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex will be able to access Sunday’s game via the Colorado feed. The NHL has lifted the blackout for this contest since there is no local broadcast.
