StarPoints For 4\/2 vs Edmonton

Edmonton Oilers (24-45-7) @ Dallas Stars (34-29-14)
7:30PM CT - American Airlines Center
Television - FOX Sports Southwest
Radio - Sportsradio 1310 The Ticket

1.)  Friday’s game is the fourth and final matchup of the season between the Stars and Oilers, and the second one in Dallas. The Stars lost 5-4 in the shootout on Oct. 6 at Edmonton, and 3-2 in the shootout on Dec. 5 at American Airlines Center, then beat the Oilers 4-3 on Jan. 22 at Rexall Place. Since 2005, the Stars are 13-4-2 against the Oilers.

2.)  Mike Modano is expected to return to the lineup for the first time since undergoing surgery for an appendectomy on March 15. The 39-year-old has not decided whether he would like to come back for his 22nd NHL season, meaning the remaining games could be the last five of his career. Modano has 13 goals and 13 assists in 54 games this season.

3.)  Speaking of Mike Modano, his Dallas Stars record of 93 points in a season is being chased by Brad Richards. Richards has 87 points (23-64-87) in 75 games this season, including 21 points in his last 16 (6-15-21). The 29-year-old former Conn Smythe winner scored 91 points with Tampa Bay in 2005-06, and already broke the Dallas Stars single-season record for assists on March 21 with his 59th helper.

4.)  Home-ice advantage should play a role in Friday’s game. The Stars have played well at AAC all year, including going 13-6-2 in their last 21 games at home. Edmonton ranks last in the NHL with an 8-26-3 record on the road. The Oilers’ have lost their last eight on the road, with their last win coming on Feb. 11 at LA.

5.)  One to watch for: Oilers’ right wing Dustin Penner has set career-highs in assists (28) and points (55) in his fifth NHL season. The 27-year-old leads his team in goals, assists and points, while playing all 76 games, and has been a rare bright spot for a team in 30th place in the NHL with 55 points. The 6-4, 245-pounder has a goal and two assists in three games against the Stars this season.
