Dallas Stars Foundation Grants $270,650 To Children\'s Charities

FRISCO, Tex. -- The Dallas Stars and the Dallas Stars Foundation announced today the recipients of the 2009-2010 Season Grant Awards. Since 1998, the Dallas Stars Foundation has distributed a total of $3.19 million to over 290 children’s charities.

Those receiving grants for a combined total of $270,650 are:

Arc of Dallas: funds will be used to purchase arts and crafts, supplies, games, and field trips for kids with intellectual and related developmental disabilities who are enrolled in summer adventure camp.

B.I.G.D.O.G.S:  Youth Organization:  will be used to purchase sporting equipment to be used during an 8 week long camp during the summer to combat the obesity and health challenge.

Big Thought: grant will be used to support summer camps: 4 weeks of full day programming for more than 3,000 DISD students that combines academic study and creative learning.

Central Dallas Ministries: funds will be used to purchase food for the Emergency Food Network. Snacks and meals are provided to low-income children who depend on the public school system for food.

Children’s Advocacy Center of Colin County: will provide essential supplies in the “Rainbow Room” including clothing, shoes, toiletries, and backpacks.

Children’s Medical Center Legacy:  the fifth and last planned installment of a $250,000 commitment to the new campus in Plano. The foundation has been partners with Children’s for many years.

Clayton Dabney Foundation for Kids with Cancer: used to create “Everlasting Memories” ie. Gifts, last wishes, and financial assistance to children in the last stages of terminal cancer.

Community Partners of Dallas: Kids in Crisis Program provides funding for critical needs such as clothing, transportation, enrichment activities, housing medical expenses, and therapy.

Dallas CASA: will support immediate and emergency supply needs such as clothing, shoes, personal items, and school needs.

Dallas LIFE: funding for the children’s program for the poor and homeless- providing balanced nutritional meals as well as back to school needs.

Holiday visits at Children's Medical Center
Denton County Friends of the Family:  will cover children’s needs such as health care and dental care, shelter meals and essential needs of infants/toddlers who are children of battered women.

Flashes of Hope: will open a new chapter of Flashes of Hope in Dallas- at Cook Children’s and Children’s Medical Center.  It will cover the cost of providing free portrait packages to children and families fighting cancer.

Irving Cares: will be used for the Emergency Assistance Program as direct client assistance for supplemental food pantry needs.

Jeffries Street Learning Center: money will be used for the Emergency Assistance Program as direct client assistance for supplemental food pantry needs.

Jonathan’s Place: therapy, clothing, basic needs and recreational activities will be provided for each child who has been neglected or abandoned and is transitioning into a foster or adoptive family.

Nexus Recovery Center:  money will be used to purchase strollers, booster seats, high chairs, and rocking chairs for the Children’s Services Program.

North Texas Food Bank:  funds will purchase food for the Food 4 Kids program, which provides backpacks of nutritious, self-serve snack foods for elementary school children who are at the risk of going hungry over the weekend.

Promise House, Inc.:  will provide runaway, homeless and at-risk youth with nutritious meals, warm clothing, a safe place to sleep,and a chance to continue their education.

Reading and Radio Resource: money will be used to provide “Audio Recording Libraries” to DISD Elementary currently rated as Academically Unacceptable.

SafeHaven of Tarrant County:  will support recreational and educational services offered to children recovering from trauma as a result of witnessing abuse.

Shared Housing Center: funds will be used for the 2010-11 School is Cool campaign drive which sends needy children back to school with a new outfit, a pair of shoes, and backpack filled with supplies

Texas Home Access Fund: funds will be used to construct handicapped accessible bathrooms, hallways, doorways, and ramps for children in the Dallas area whose families who don’t have the financial means fund the project.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: grant will provide assistance and financial relief for children and families who are diagnosed with Leukemia.

The Salvation Army Casa Youth Emergency Shelter: money will be used to purchase new socks and underwear for children who have been removed from abusive situations or thrown out on the street with just the clothes on their backs.

Vickery Meadow Learning Center: funding will provide classroom materials for daily lessons for the Early Childhood Education Program. Provides the only learning opportunity most children will have prior to elementary school.
