Bachman and Spang signed to one-year deals

Bachman
Frisco, Tex. – The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has signed goaltender Richard Bachman and defenseman Dan Spang each to one-year, two-way contracts, placing them both under contract through the 2011-12 season.

Bachman, 23, made his NHL debut with Dallas on Dec. 11, 2010, at Phoenix, stopping all four shots faced in nine minutes. He spent the majority of 2010-11 as the starting goaltender for the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Salt Lake City native appeared in 55 games last season, posting a 28-19-5 record with a 2.20 goals against average (GAA), which ranked fourth in the AHL, and a .927 save percentage (SV%), which placed third in the league.

The 5-10, 170-pound goaltender set numerous Texas team records this past season, including wins (28), shutouts (6), appearances (55), minutes (3,191), and saves (1,478). Bachman is Texas’ all-time leader in most goalie categories, going 32-23-5 all-time in 63 appearances. The second-year pro has played 3,637 minutes, posting a 2.19 GAA and a .927 SV% with seven shutouts.

Bachman played in 35 games for the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL in 2009-10, going 22-7-4 with a 2.25 GAA and a .910 SV%. He spent two seasons at Colorado College from 2007-09, posting a 39-20-9 record with the Tigers. Bachman was selected by Dallas in the fourth round (120th overall) at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Spang, 27, skated in 77 games for the Texas Stars in 2010-11, leading Texas defensemen in points with 37 (10g, 27a). He also played in six games for Texas during the 2011 AHL Playoffs, collecting four assists. The Winchester, MA, native has dressed in 264 career AHL games, tallying 114 points (26g, 88a).

Spang played four seasons at Boston University from 2002 to 2006 and skated in 146 games, posting 70 points (20g, 50a). He was originally drafted by San Jose in the second round (52nd overall) at the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
