Hockey Fights Cancer (HFC) was established as a way for the hockey community to come together to fight cancer, a disease that has affected so many individuals in the hockey family and our community, in-general.
Hockey Fights Cancer helps raise money and awareness for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research. Organizations involved in the Stars’ HFC night include: the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Mary Crowley Cancer Research Center, Susan G. Komen, TeamConnor, Children’s Cancer Fund, the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, CureSearch for Children’s Cancer, Zero- The Project to End Prostate Cancer, and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
In advance of the evening, the Dallas Stars Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on behalf of the NHL and Hockey Fights Cancer.
The Dallas Stars wives and girlfriends will be passing out lavender ribbons to the first 5,000 fans at the game and collecting donations at each of the main entrances. Fans are encouraged to wear lavender to the game.
Stars players will be using special tape on their sticks during warm-ups. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on these sticks at the Foundation table during the game.
Stars coaches, broadcasters and executives will be wearing lavender ties for the game, and look for the Hockey Fights Cancer stickers on the back of all the players’ helmets throughout the month of October.
