Behind The Scenes: Game 16 - Detroit


The division leading Stars completed a four-game road swing against Carolina, Washington, Pittsburgh & Detroit with a 2-2 record. Get a glimpse of what went on behind the scenes as the team traveled to the East Coast.

DAY SIX (11/12/11) - GAME 16: DETROIT

1:01 am - Back in Dallas, Daryl Reaugh waits on his luggage. Of the road trip, Razor remarked, "It might not have felt like it as they strolled out of [an] odorous Joe Louis Arena but it was in fact 'a good trip.'"


9:53 pm - Steve Sumner supervises the loading of gear onto the equipment truck.


9:51 pm - Associate Producer, Doug Foster, waits for some broadcast equipment to be packed up so he can load it onto the equipment truck.


9:50 pm - Coach Gulutzan said after the game, "I can tell you truthfully - I've gotten better over the last three days, watching these teams play and seeing some of the things they do and some of the things we can improve in our game. It's been a good learning experience."


 


 


 


9:42 pm - We can probably shore up some faceoff plays and shore up our neutral zone, which was kind of the message after the game," noted Adam Burish after the game, "We'll get better at that. The little things over the course of a game can make a big difference. You saw that tonight and in the last game."


9:40 pm - Mike Heika, of the Dallas Morning News, heads into the Stars dressing room to conduct postgame interviews.


9:35 pm - Johan Franzen, who received first star of the game honors, passes a stick into the stands.


9:34 pm - The team comes out to tap Raycroft's pads. Of Raycroft's performance, Coach Gulutzan said, "We never gave him a chance. There was far too much rubber at the net for him to deal with.”


9:32 pm - Jamie Benn heads to the room after his fight at the end of the game.


9:32 pm - Andrew Raycroft watches as Jamie Benn fights Jakub Kindl in the final minute of play.


9:29 pm - Mark Fistric, Adam Pardy and Tom Wandell attempt to deny entry at the blue line.


9:28 pm - The Stars bench looks across the ice as Johan Franzen skates in the neutral zone.


 


 


9:25 pm - Adam Burish takes exception to a play made on Stephane Robidas late in the third period.


9:24 pm - Mark Fistric battles with Justin Abdelkader in front of Andrew Raycroft.


9:23 pm - Referee Tim Peel waits for the puck to drop.


9:21 pm - The red light in the scorers box comes on signaling a TV timeout.


9:23 pm - Andrew Raycroft's stick rests atop the goal during the final TV timeout of the thrid period.


 


9:08 pm - Joe Louis Arena comes alive as Ian White blocks what looked like an easy goal for Jamie Benn with his face. After the game, Detroit defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom said of the play, “He took one for the team, that's for sure. I think he saved a goal there.”


8:56 pm - Mark Fistric watches the Red Wings take a 3-2 lead early in the third period.


8:50 pm - Asst. Coaches Willie Desjardins and Paul Jerrard follow the team onto the bench.


8:48 pm - Mark Fistric waits outside the locker room prior to the start of the third period.


8:43 pm - The coaching staff heads into the locker room to meet with the team during the second intermission.


8:37 pm - The team's leading goal scorer, Loui Eriksson, talks with Daryl "Razor" Reaugh during the second intermission.


8:33 pm - Trying to extend his goal scoring streak to 5 games, Eric Nystrom, puts a shot into the wheel on Jimmy Howards chest.


8:21 pm - Play resumes after the Stars tie it at 2-2 midway through the second period.


7:58 pm - Coach Paul Jerrard watches from the coaches room as the players get ready for the second period.


7:39 pm - The mini-mites line up for some intermission hockey.


 


7:31 pm - Sheldon Souray and Jake Dowell talk through defensive zone coverage during a break in play.


7:30 pm - Adrew Raycroft watches the play transition into the Detroit zone after a fleury of activity in front of his net.


 


7:25 pm - Coach Glen Gulutzan draws up a play at a stoppage in play.


7:24 pm - Adam Pardy, comes into the lineup in place of Alex Goligoski, who is out with a hand injury.


7:19 pm - With an early lead, Nicklas Grossman fires a puck on net.


7:18 pm - Adam Burish taps Trevor Daley on the head. His shot was deflected in front and landed on Loui Eriksson's stick, which led to the goal.


7:18 pm - Adam Burish lifts his hands to celebrate Loui Eriksson opening the scoring; the Stars have scored first 11 times this season.


7:06 pm - Kathryn Kinville signs the anthem alongside Detroit institution Karen Newman as part of a fundraising effort for the Holley Institute which puts on a camp for hearing impaired children every summer.


7:06 pm - Adam Burish and Trevor Daley stand at the blueline for the National Anthem.


7:02 pm - The officials take to the ice.


6:58 pm - Kathryn Kinville warms her hands before performing the national anthem in sign language.


6:54 pm - The Zamboni makes for the tunnel after flooding the ice after warm-ups.


 


6:35 pm - Jim (left) traveled from Dallas to Detroit with his girlfriend's son Ethan for some male bonding.


6:33 pm - Dallas resident and long-time Stars fan Debbie Postel takes a photo during warm ups. Debbie's husband takes her on one road trip to see the Stars every year.


6:30 pm - Stephane Robidas talks with Daryl Reaugh during the pre-game interview.


6:29 pm - Andrew Raycroft leads the team onto the ice as the starting goaltender for the third time this season.


6:27 pm - Mike Ribeiro and Jamie Benn do their pre-game ritual prior to warm ups.


6:21 pm - Some kids in the stands eye the Dallas Stars' sticks.


6:02 pm - Loui Eriksson jogs back to the room after kicking the ball around with teammates.


5:47 pm - The locker room door is shut for a team meeting.


5:41 pm - Assistant GM Frank Provenzano, in the coaches room at Joe Louis Arena.


5:31 pm - Red Wing fans begin to stream into Joe Louis Arena through the Gordie Howe Entrance.


5:19 pm - Toby Petersen and Radek Dvorak read game notes and scouting reports posted on the wall.


5:18 pm - Loui Eriksson feels the blade of his stick just outside the stick room at Joe Louis Arena.


 


5:14 pm - Dennis Soetaert pulls decals for Philip Larsen's helmet.


5:09 pm - Jake Dowell laughs with teammates in the locker room.


5:09 pm - Krystofer Barch and Loui Eriksson sit on the bench and talk before the game.


 


12:08 pm - Jamie Benn walks to the team bus outside of Joe Louis Arena.


11:59 am - Daryl Reaugh chats with Coach Gulutzan before he goes in search of "lunch and a sea-weed wrap."


11:57 am - Coach Gulutzan informs the media about the call-up of Texas Star Philip Larsen.

10:53 pm - Much like Rexall Place in Edmonton, Joe Louis Arena, in Detroit, is old but full of character.


10:47 am - The wooden player's bench is a marked difference from the previous night in Pittsburgh.


10:46 am - Ralph Stranges visits with former Dallas Star Fabian Brunnstrom.


10: 45 am - Steve Sumner sharpens Brenden Morrow's skate.


 


10:39 am - Brenden Morrow enters the visiting dressing room at Joe Louis Arena for team meetings and an optional morning skate.
