Behind The Scenes: Road Trip - NYI Game Day


The division leading Stars continue a five-game road swing with games against the New York Rangers, New York Islanders & New Jersey Devils this week. Get a glimpse of what went on behind the scenes as the team travels to the East Coast.

DAY ONE (12/15/11) - GAME DAY - NEW YORK ISLANDERS

11:02:59 pm - Daryl Reaugh bounds back on the bus with a single pretzel, declaring himself the Usain Bolt of pretz-sprinting.


11:01 pm - At the corner of Broadway and 42nd St - in the heart of Times Square - Daryl Reaugh darted off the bus to grab a pretzel, hoping he'd make it back before the light turned.


10:12 pm - Coach Gulutzan talks with Mike Ribeiro prior to getting on the bus to New Jersey.


9:58 pm - "…if we come to work and play our game, we can hang with anyone. I think it's just a matter of us having that mindset come every night." - Coach Glenn Gulutzan


 


9:55 pm - Eric Nystrom comes out to greet a section full of waiting friends and family.


9:49 pm Andrew Raycroft signs a stick for Duane Roloson's son.


9:48 pm - Brenden Morrow talks with former Stars owner, Norm Green.


9:46 pm - Sheldon Souray talks with Jamie Benn after the game.


9:44 pm - Brenden Morrow speaks with the media after the game.


9:38 pm - The media waits for the teams to open locker rooms.


9:35 pm - Nicklas Grossman is the first to congratulate Richard Bachman for becoming the first Stars rookie goalie to win their first three starts.


9:34 pm - Islander Matt Mouslon takes exception for a hit by Stephane Robidas in the closing minute of play.


9:32 pm The Stars gather at the boards during the final TV timeout.


9:31 pm - The Islanders pull their goalie.


9:19 pm - Steve Ott sits in the box for an interference penalty late in the 3rd period.


9:17 pm - Bobby Nystrom watches his son Eric attentively.


9:13 pm - The equipment crew has the room prepped to make post-game packing go smoothly.


9:10 pm - Mike Ribeiro battles two Islanders for a puck behind Richard Bachman.


9:09 pm - As the period nears the half-way point, the Stars are outshooting the Islanders 25-17.


9:06 pm - Tensions began to rise as Steve Ott brought the pesky in #peskystars.


9:03 pm - Jamie Benn and company celebrate his third period goal. The goal would stand as the game winner.


8:58 pm - Islanders fans react to Brenden Morrow tying the game on a goal just 1:07 into the third period.


8:54 pm - Assistant Coach Willie Desjardins heads to the bench.


8:54 pm - Sheldon Souray jumps onto the ice.


8:53 pm - Mike Ribeiro gets ready for the third period.


8:43 pm - Radek Dvorak and Mike Ribeiro talk during the intermission outside the Stars locker room.


8:41 pm - Alex Goligoski joins the broadcast for the 2nd intermission interview.


8:38 pm - The team comes to their feet as the Islanders try unsuccessfully to make it 3-1 at the end of the 2nd period.


8:33 pm - Jeff Damota, Amanda Hainsworth and Ryan Wills, Conneticut based Stars fans, watch as Richard Bachman and the Stars fend off a 2nd period push from the Islanders.


8:24 pm - Trainer Dave Zeiss tosses a glove to Steve Sumner during a TV timeout.


8:11 pm - Ralph Strangis and Daryl Reaugh bring it to the people.


8:10 pm - The NHL's off-ice officiating crew track stats during the game.


8:08 pm - Joe Nieuwendyk and Frank Provenzano watch the second period from the press box.


 


7:58 pm - The security team pulls the tunnel forward as Richard Bachman prepares to lead the team out for the second period.


7:45 pm - End of the first period, game tied at 1-1 and the Stars come off the ice.


7:41 pm - Sheldon Souray waits on the boards to make a change.


7:38 pm - Islanders fans join Michael Grabner and company in celebrating the late period game tying goal.


7:33 pm - Alex Goligoski races Matt Martin for a puck in the corner.


7:29 pm - During a break in play, Islanders fans salute a US soldier in attendance.


7:27 pm - Assistant Coach Paul Jerrard talks with the defense.


 


7:24 pm - Fist bumps for Loui, who broke an eight game scoring drought with the opening goal of the game.


7:23 pm - The Stars celebrate a first period goal by Loui Eriksson.


7:17 pm - With play under way, Associate Athletic Trainer Craig Lowry had to make his way to the bench in a creative way.


7:16 pm A Stars fan, with prime seats at the Coliseum.


7:15 pm - An Islanders fan heckles Andrew Raycroft in the first period.


7:09 pm - Richard Bachman, during the anthem.


6:52 pm - The equipment crew works hard to make last minute adjustments to gear prior to the game.


6:45 pm - Jamie Benn tosses a puck to a young fan.


 


6:36 pm - Richard Bachman corrals a rebound in warm ups.


 


6:31 pm - Richard Bachman leads the team out for warm ups for the thrid consecutive game.


6:13 pm - Stu Barnes walks back to the coaches room.


6:09 pm - Tomas Vincour and Dennis Soetaert number sticks.


6:06 pm - Mike Ribeiro stretches out by the player's entrance to the ice.


6:04 pm - There's not a lot of privacy outside the Stars locker room.


5:59 pm - Steve Ott saves a point after Brenden Morrow takes a shot off the head.


5:29 pm - Islanders Ice Girl Stephanie warms up before the game.


5:16 pm - Ralph Strangis and Daryl Reaugh prepare for the broadcast.


5:13 pm - Just under two hours to puck drop and the Coliseum parking lot is empty.


5:05 pm - Eric Nystrom looks at game notes posted in the locker room.


5:04 pm - Jamie Benn tapes his stick.


5:03 pm - Coach Gulutzan looks at Islander tape with video coordinator Kelly Forbes.


4:59 pm - Sheldon Souray arrives at the rink.


4:39 pm - Philip Larsen, Jake Dowell, Eric Nystrom and Jamie Benn walk to the rink.


4:37 pm - The guys load their luggage on the bus before walking across the street to the arena.


12:54 pm - The Coliseum building crew replaces a pane of glass along the end boards.


12:29 pm - Steve Sumner works on salvaging the grip from a broken Jamie Benn stick.


12:19 pm - Richard Bachman's mask at home in his locker stall after the morning skate.


12:18 pm - Brenden Morrow speaks with Islanders color commentator Butch Goring; Goring won four consecutive Stanley Cups with the Islanders between 1979 and 1983.


12:11 pm - During shooting practice, Sheldon Souray sends the water bottle flying.


12:05 pm - Donny White & Cody Eastwood (front) join Greg Ramirez, Dennis Soetert and Kelly Forbes in watching morning skate.
