All-Star Q&A with Jamie Benn

Q: What was like for you to almost be the last player taken in the All-Star Player Draft?

Jamie Benn:
“It was a fun experience to do something like that in my first All-Star Game. Coming down to the wire was a little bit nerve-racking but a lot of fun at the same time. We’re here for a good weekend and I’m looking forward to it.”

Q: You came close to being picked last and almost winning a car in the process. Did it matter to you that you almost got picked last?

“I don’t think it matters. Just getting the chance to be at al All-Star Game is a great honor. To have Zdeno (Chara) throw out a shout-out to me was really nice of him when he selected me.”

Q: Were you sweating it out (being in the final two players in the draft) or having fun with it?

“A little bit of both; it’s all fun and games. We knew it was going to come down to the wire there so, like I said, it doesn’t matter – we’re all here to have a good weekend and have some fun with it. It was a fun night all-around.”

Q: You almost got a car at that point. Do you wish you had gotten the car or are you happy you weren’t the last one picked?

“That was a little bit of a win-win there – get picked or get a car. I’m happy I got picked.”

Q: What was the process like in recuperating from an appendectomy and deciding whether you could play this weekend?

“I wanted to play, so we did everything we could to see if I could be ready. I give a lot of credit to our doctors and training staff. There was a lot of thought put into it and you have to do what’s best for your team. I’m lucky that it worked out. I’m healthy enough to be here and I’m excited and looking forward to a good weekend.”

Q: Your team has all of the Senators’ rivals on it and many in the arena will be rooting for Team Alfredsson. Are you OK with playing on the team with the ‘villain’ role?

“It sounds good to me. There are a lot of good players on our team and they’re all here for good reason. We’ll have fun with it. I’m just looking forward to it.”

Q: How do you feel? Are you recovered from your appendectomy?

“I’m feeling good, yes. Better with each day. I’ve been skating a few days now and I feel good. I’m looking forward to a good weekend.” is the official Web site of DSE Hockey Club, L.P.  The Stars name and logos are registered trademarks of the NHL and the Stars.
