FIVE THINGS TO WATCH:

1. The Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins faceoff for their second and final meeting of the season on Tuesday night. The Stars lost the first contest against the Penguins 3-1 in mid-November and have a 1-5-1 record against them over the last seven games.

2.
Dallas enters Wednesday’s contest riding a four-game winning streak (MTL, CHI, MIN, VAN). In that four game span, Dallas has outscored the opposition 13-4 and have jumped from 10th in the Western Conference to the eighth and final playoff spot. During this four-game winning streak, the Stars have outscored the opposition 8-1 from the third period on, winning two of those games despite the fact that they trailed after two periods.

3.
For just the fourth time in franchise history, the Stars are slated to play a game on Feb. 29 (Leap Year). The Stars have never won a game in regulation on this date, earning a 1-1-1 record in the previous three games (win was in overtime). The Stars previously played on this date in 2004 against Edmonton (1-0 W*), 1992 against Hartford (4-5 L*) and in 1984 against St. Louis (5-7 L).

4.
James Neal and Matt Niskanen are scheduled to play in Dallas for the first time since being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Alex Goligoski on Feb. 21, 2011. In 75 games since the trade, Goligoski has accumulated 13 goals and earned 28 assists (41 points).

5.
Sheldon Souray, Mike Ribeiro, and Michael Ryder combined for 14 points against the Penguins on Jan. 10, 2004 when each of the three players were Montreal Canadiens. Ribeiro (1-3-4), Souray (1-5-6) and Ryder (2-2-4) all had multi-point games.

WHO TO WATCH:

MIKE RIBEIRO
is currently on a seven-game point streak (3-7-10). It’s the longest streak any Star has had this season.

KARI LEHTONEN
was named the NHL’s “Third Star of the Week” for his impressive play last week. Lehtonen went 3-0-0 and registered a .965 SV% a 0.98 GAA with one shutout.
