The Honor Event will take place at a break during the second period on Saturday.
Wally York will serve as Stand & Salute American Heroes "Boots on the Ground" for the honor. Wally York states: "Stand and Salute American Heroes takes great pride in honoring US Army Specialist Daniel Bazavilvazo March the 10th in cooperation with the Dallas Stars.”
Lora Farris, executive director of the Dallas Stars Foundation Stars states: "The Dallas Stars Organization is proud to participate in honoring Specialist Bazavilvazo at the March 10 game. We are grateful to him for his service and the sacrifice he has made for our country. This presentation is a small token of our appreciation to him and all the service men and women around the world."
In 2003 SPC Bazavilvazo was with one of the first military units in the invasion during Operation Iraqi Freedom, 3rd ID. He was only there for five months when he came abruptly under fire. Bazavilvazo had been standing watch on a roof top in Baghdad when he abruptly came under fire. He was shot twice and nearly bled to death before help arrived.
Specialist Bazavilvazo spent several weeks at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC receiving medical care. He and his three children now reside in Texas.
Stand & Salute American Heroes has been working with several NHL teams throughout the 2011-2012 NHL season to team up and honor the sacrifices our Nation's Purple Heart recipients with a hockey themed award that symbolizes our Nation's appreciation for those who have been wounded in combat operations.
In proud partnership Stand & Salute American Heroes, American Airlines and The Dallas Marriott Suites thank you, SPC Daniel Bazavilvazo, for your service and sacrifice to our country. American Airlines is graciously offering to fly Specialist Bazavilvazo and a guest to a place of his choice within the United States as a way of honoring what he has given for his country.
